Sunset on St Agnes, Isles of Scilly a few nights ago. Simply stunning!
“Once a year, go someplace you’ve never been before” Dalai Lama
There is something in the words by the Dalai Lama that brings great encouragement and longing to travel this fascinating planet, and with great reason. Ever heard the saying “So many places to see, so little time”? Here is a guide to my top 5 travel destinations to help inspire you for your next journey across the globe.
An archipelago off the southwest of Cornwall, these islands really are a true travellers dream- white sandy beaches, exotic plants, hardly any cars and definitely no cares in the world. Treat yourself to a stay in one of the many authentic Cornish cottages, where even here you can leave your door unlocked.
Situated in the Rocky Mountains in Alberta, Canada, Banff National Park is full of natural wonders, indescribeable scenic delights and there is unbelievable wildlife coming out of your ears. One of the most beautiful destinations I have ever travelled to. An all year round destination that is a must see for adventure and nature seekers.
3. The Gili Islands
An archipelago of 3 islands off the coast of Lombok, Indonesia. Small enough to walk around within an hour, deserted enough to feel like you are on another planet, and tropical enough that you just want to stay sipping mango lassis in your hammock forever. This budget friendly location is perfect for families, retirees (very popular with expats) and backpackers alike.
4. South Island, New Zealand-by campervan!
Now I could have been more specific here but I honestly think there are too many wonderful sights here to be missed and the best way to see so many is by road trip. Hiring a campervan is the easiest and most budget friendly way to fit in the culture, scenic wonders and awe inspiring vistas that the South Island has to offer. Travel down the West coast and up the East or vice versa. Don’t fancy a campervan? Hire a car and hotel hop or alternatively you can take the train for a just a scenic trip from West to East.
1 of 15 paradises that make up the Cook Islands in the South Pacific, Rarotonga is a beach lovers fantasy. Fresh coconuts fall at your feet on your own private beach, tropical fish swim around you in knee deep crystal clear warm waters. Muri Beach Lagoon is the most idyllic side of the island with Motu’s (small deserted islands) within wading distance where you can relax with a massage overlooking the shore. It is pure paradise.
